With over 30 years of public service, Ray Gerwitz currently serves as the Executive Director and Deputy Chief Security Officer for The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and for The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Gerwitz provides executive leadership to the following units: Uniformed Security Operations, Risk Operations Center, Risk/Threat Analysis, Strategic Planning and Research, Talent Management, Community Outreach, and Budget and Administration.
Gerwitz is an International Association for Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS) Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator and is board certified in security management through ASIS International as a Certified Protection Professional. In February of 2019, Gerwitz was selected to serve on the IAHSS Healthcare Safety and Security Governance Committee, which is responsible for reviewing IAHSS bylaws and polices. In September of 2019, Gerwitz was invited to serve on the ASIS Healthcare Security Council, which acts as a source of information on healthcare security best practices while promoting the organization’s certifications, and educational efforts and training.
Gerwitz is a graduate of Oklahoma State University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Master of Science in Telecommunications Management and a Master of Business Administration.
