This session offers a primary on The Clery Act tailored specifically for the Campus Law Enforcement and Security Officer.
It explains the origins of the Act, who enforces compliance, what constitutes a Clery-reportable offense, what is Clery Geography, and – most importantly – how critical it is for a responding officer to ask the right questions and write a complete narrative.
By the end of this session, you will:
- Have an overall understanding of how you, as campus police/security officers, contribute to the overall Clery Compliance Program of your Institution
- Understand how a Clery Compliance Coordinator interprets officer-provided information when compiling Clery crime statistics
- Know how to utilize tools to assist you in navigating the differences between State/Local elements of crimes and what the Federal UCR-1/Clery elements are
